Questions for All Procurements

As you ensure compliance with Section 508 within your agency, some general questions to ask your staff when beginning a procurement include:

  • What are the minimum technical specifications required for this product/service?
  • Which Section 508 standards apply to this product/service?
  • What products/services are available that meet the qualifications you've established?
  • Which of the products/services that meets your specifications most complies with Section 508?
  • How will you determine if the product/service deliverable meets the criteria, including Section 508 specifications?
  • Have you determined if an exception applies? If so, how are you providing alternate access?

As you procure commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) packages, software development, or modification, determine if the vendor or contractor can meet the requirements of Section 508 by asking the Requiring Official these and the more technical questions presented on the following screens.
